Book a Session

Pick your sport. Or try them all.

Every session is sport-specific so kids learn the real fundamentals without information overload.

Baseball

Throwing, catching, fielding ground balls, and hitting off a tee. Before tee ball starts, let's make sure they know the basics.

🏀

Basketball

Dribbling, passing, shooting form — without making a 5-year-old feel like they're in a drill. It's all games and movement.

🏈

Football

Throwing spirals, catching, route running. Flag football fundamentals in a safe, fun setting with no tackling.

🏓

Pickleball

The fastest-growing sport in America — and surprisingly perfect for young kids. Great hand-eye coordination and super fun.

Golf

How to act on a course and enough skills to walk 9 holes with dad. Golf is a life skill — Coach Mark starts it early.

🏐

Volleyball

Bumping, setting, and serving at kid height. Just the fundamentals and a lot of laughing.

Soccer

Dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic field awareness. Room to run and room to mess up.

🎯

Yard Games and Skills

Cornhole, frisbee toss, and athletic development. Sometimes the best practice does not look like practice at all.

MEET COACH MARK

He has been coaching kids his whole career. Yours is next.

Coach Mark with Joey

Coach Mark Lucas has spent 16 years as a high school teacher — and has spent every one of those years coaching kids in the Jefferson County community where he lives and where his own kids play ball.

His coaching resume is not a credential on a wall. It is years of showing up. High school baseball. High school basketball. Tee ball. Coach pitch. Kid pitch. JCLL youth basketball. JCLL youth soccer.

His son Palmer is 7. His daughter Joey is 5. They are both athletes. That is not an accident.

Coach Mark is married to Tommie Lucas, Jefferson County Teacher of the Year and a teacher at Washington High School right here in Charles Town.

Palmer and Joey

When you bring your child to First Play Sports, you are not dropping them off with a stranger. You are handing them to someone who has spent a career earning the right to be called Coach.

Palmer, 7, and Joey, 5 — his proof of concept

Kid sports should be fun.

Coach Mark has spent four years coaching his own kids in local leagues right here in Jefferson County. He knows exactly what a 4-year-old needs from their first coach.

  • Multi-sport: baseball, basketball, football, pickleball
  • Perfect for 4–9 year olds who've never played before
  • Parents can coordinate with friends to fill a session together
  • Zero pressure — this is about building confidence, not stats

This is real coaching.

Coach Mark coaching kids on the baseball field

Every session runs like a real practice. Coach Mark runs drills, teaches fundamentals, and gives every kid individual attention.

Structure

Every session has a plan, a skill focus, and a clear beginning and end.

Instruction

Coach Mark teaches. Every kid leaves having learned something specific.

Individual Attention

4–6 kids per session means your child is never invisible.

EVERY TIME. EVERY SESSION.

You always know who is coaching your kid.

When you sign your child up for a rec league, you get whoever shows up. Maybe a great coach. Maybe a well-meaning dad who volunteered because nobody else did.

First Play Sports does not work that way.

Every session is Coach Mark. Not a substitute. Not a staff rotation. Coach Mark shows up, runs the session, coaches your kid, and goes home.

That is not a small thing. That is the whole thing.

Common questions from parents

We've heard them all.

Do you offer all sports every session?

Not all at once. Coach Mark runs sport-specific sessions and rotates based on the season. Baseball is the featured sport this spring.

Where do sessions take place?

All-Star Sports Days sessions are at Huntfield Community, beside Washington High School in Charles Town, WV.

My kid has never played before. Is that okay?

That's literally the whole point! Coach Mark specializes in first-timers. Zero experience needed.

Can I book just one session and see how it goes?

Absolutely. No pressure to commit to anything after that first session. Just show up, have fun, and go from there.

Can we fill a session with our friend group?

Yes! Grab 4–6 families, all book the same time slot, and make it your own little crew. It's the most fun way to do it.

What ages are sessions for?

All sessions are for kids ages 4–9. Morning (9 AM–12 PM) and evening (5 PM–8 PM) slots are available starting July 6.

Do we need to bring equipment?

No equipment required. Just bring your kid in comfortable clothes and sneakers.

What if my kid wants to try different sports?

Each session is sport-specific. Great for kids who haven't found their thing yet — just book a different sport next time.
